The Vyborg District Inter-Settlement Library (4 Pionerskaya St.) hosted the conclusion of the fourth design project competition for Leningrad Region libraries. The participants included third-year students from the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPbGASU).

Each group put in extensive work. Students visited the sites, familiarizing themselves with the architectural features of the buildings, the history and traditions of the institutions, and their primary audiences. In their work, the young specialists were required to demonstrate not only interesting design solutions but also functionality and compliance with modern library service requirements.

Particular attention was paid to creating a vibrant and interactive environment for young readers. Projects featured engaging animated characters, play areas, and other interior elements designed to foster an interest in reading among children.

The works were evaluated by leading experts in architecture, design, librarianship, culture, and tourism.

The jury was chaired by Vladimir Tsoy, Vice-Governor of the Leningrad Region for the Development and Preservation of Cultural Heritage.

Mikhail Makarov, a Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region, also joined the event. He emphasized that today’s modern libraries are not merely repositories for books and archival documents, but new centers of attraction for cultural and educational exchange. Mikhail Makarov cited the Vyborg District Inter-Settlement Library as an example, where a new location was opened last year following reconstruction as part of the "Family" National Project.

In gratitude to the staff for their fruitful work, he presented a Certificate of Honor from the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region to the Director of the Inter-Settlement Library, Tatyana Cherenkova, wishing the team continued success and prosperity.

The results of the design competition will be published later on the official online platforms of the organizers: the Leningrad Regional Universal Scientific Library (LOUNB), SPbGASU, and the organizing committee of the International Golden Trezzini Awards for Architecture and Design.
