On December 9, a large-scale exhibition titled "St. Petersburg Style. Designers of the Northern Capital. 1980s–2010s" opened at the State Hermitage Museum. Occupying the entire space of the Costume Gallery at the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre, the exposition will remain open until March 2027.
The exposition explores the phenomenon of the St. Petersburg school of fashion, founded on the legacy of the Leningrad House of Fashion Models (LDMO), which operated from 1944 to 1994. The exhibition demonstrates how, following the House's closure, its graduates created their own brands, forming the city's recognizable code: intellectuality, strict lines, restrained monochrome, and a continuous dialogue with architecture.
The halls feature works by iconic designers of different generations: Tatyana Parfionova, Ianis Chamalidy, Lilia Kisilenko, Vladimir Bukhinnik, Konstantin Goncharov, Oleg Biryukov, Stas Lopatkin, and other masters. The project curator is Nina Tarasova, Head of the Applied Art Sector of the Hermitage's Department of the History of Russian Culture.
Opening the exhibition on December 8, General Director of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky emphasized the museum's immense contribution to preserving and studying the history of costume and presented numerous guests with tangible proof that this contribution is highly valued by experts—the "Golden Trezzini" statuette. The Hermitage project won in the "Best Implemented Project of Temporary or Permanent Museum Exposition" category at the International Golden Trezzini Awards organized by the Worldwide St Petersburg Club in 2025. During the opening of the "St. Petersburg Style" exposition, the award, produced at the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory, was put on public display in the foyer of the Staraya Derevnya Restoration and Storage Centre. Mikhail Piotrovsky recalled that the laureate was specifically a "costume" exhibition, "A Pocketful of Dreams. Art Deco Fashion from the Collections of the State Hermitage and the Nazim Mustafayev Collection", and thanked all the specialists who participated in its creation.
