“Music is an expression of other worlds, where words end, but thoughts, feelings, life, and death remain,” said Sergei Stadler. The violinist, conductor, People’s Artist of Russia, and Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, member of the Worldwide St. Petersburg Club Sergei Stadler, passed away suddenly on April 20, 2026.

For St. Petersburg and the world of art, Sergei Stadler was a figure of Renaissance proportions. A native Petersburger raised in a family of musicians, he traveled the path from child prodigy to the “Russian Paganini”—a title bestowed upon him by Academician Dmitry Likhachov. Stadler was the first performer in the world granted the honor of playing the legendary Guarneri del Gesù violin, “Il Cannone,” in public concerts. His life was fueled by incredible energy: hundreds of concerts a year, tours across more than 90 countries, serving as Rector of the St. Petersburg Conservatory (2008–2011), and founding the unique St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra in 2013.

To the Golden Trezzini Awards, Sergei Stadler was more than just a great contemporary; he was a close friend and a loyal partner. The St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra created the unmistakable atmosphere of the award ceremonies at the Hermitage Theatre for three consecutive years (2023–2025). These performances became an integral part of the Golden Trezzini history, filling the museum halls with harmony of the highest order.

Sergei Stadler was a profound, wise, and remarkably humble man.

The Organizing Committee and organizers of the Golden Trezzini Awards express their deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and students of Sergei Stadler. This is an irreparable loss for us all. We mourn with you.

Blessed memory to the Maestro. Your music will resonate forever.
